| CENTRAL AYRSHIRE YOUTH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION |
The aim of the Association is to promote Association Football for the youth of Ayrshire, in both seven a side games for the younger age levels and at eleven a side at age twelve and beyond.
Central Ayrshire Youth Football Association was formed in 1975 and brought together boys clubs throughout Ayrshire. Initially, it was all eleven a side football which started with a league at under ten years old and moved through the age levels to under sixteen. In the early years, the Association was affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Football Association. and as such were governed by the Amateurs constitution. Eventually, of course, a constitution came into being for the Association, put together by contribution from member clubs and with guidance from the Scottish Amateurs Committee.
In 1992, it was decided that the younger age levels were gaining little benefit from playing eleven a side football on full size pitches and a ground breaking decision was taken to introduce seven a side football to the youth of Ayrshire.With the cooperation of the SFA technical department, the SFA Community Coach at Kilmarnock F.C. and local authority leasure services at East, North and South Ayrshire, Central Ayrshire Youth Football Association were proud to be the first Youth Association to offer seven a side football on an organised basis in Scotland. It is still believed that we were indeed, the first in the United Kingdom to do so. Where Central Ayrshire led, so others followed, and seven a side football up to age eleven is now standard practice throughout Scotland.
Since then, the Association has gone from strength to strength, and were again at the forefront of innovation when we introduced "transitional football" to the age eleven league. Quite simply,in order to prepare our young players for the playing of eleven a side football at age twelve and beyond, they played the first half of the age eleven season at seven a side and the second half of the season at eleven a side. This, coupled with the later introduction of referees visiting clubs in the transitional season to discuss and explain the eleven a side rules, became standard practice within the Association and was widely and enthusiastically welcomed by players and coaches alike.
With the formation of the Scottish Youth Football Association, our close association with the Amateur association ended and we are now well and truly embedded in the forward thinking innovations of the SYFA.
In addition to weekly organised fixtures we also organise in house festivals with a view to introducing more variety to the seven a side game for our players.
Central Ayrshire Youth Football Association is committee led with committee members mainly taken from our member clubs on a voluntary basis. Their unstinting dedication and enthusiasm will ensure that the Association will be at the forefront of youth football in Ayrshire for many years to come and new clubs wishing to join us are made very welcome.
